Aureo y Calicó sale 422, lot 3426

This specimen was lot 3426 in Aureo y Calicó sale 422 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 25 € (about US$32 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Nicaragua. 1990. 10000 cordobas. Juegos Olímpicos - Barcelona '92. Hípica. AG. Proof." The bankrupt regime of Nicaragua used this denomination to issue numerous NCLT's in 1990, including KM 66, KM 67, KM 68, KM 71, KM 72 (shown here), KM 74 and KM 75. Some were 20 g, others were heavier. The Sandinistas were ousted in the elections of 1990 by Violeta Chamorro, widow of the assassinated Pedro Joaquín Chamorro Cardenal. The Sandinistas returned to power in the elections of 2006 and show no indication of relinquishing it.
