This specimen was lot 50372 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $905. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. Newfoundland. 5 Cents, 1946-C. PCGS AU-53 Secure Holder. RARE date. Only 2,041 pieces struck. Light wear." Canada dropped the silver five cents in favor of the nickel in 1921 but Newfoundland never followed suit. This type was issued 1938-47 with a reduction in fineness from .925 to .800 in 1944. The other dates are common.

Specification: 1.16 g, 0.800 fine silver, .030 troy oz ASW.
