Canada dropped the silver five cents in favor of the nickel in 1921 but Newfoundland never followed suit. This type was issued 1938-47 with a reduction in fineness from .925 to .800 in 1944. This specimen was lot 2113 in Goldberg sale 93 (Los Angeles, September 2016), where it sold for $176.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Newfoundland. 5 Cents, 1947-C NGC MS64. George VI. NGC graded MS-64. From the Aurora Family Collection."

Recorded mintage: 38,400 (a better date) plus proofs.

Specification: 1.16 g, 0.800 fine silver, .030 troy oz ASW, designed by Percy Metcalfe.
