This specimen was lot 76286 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $125. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. Newfoundland. 5 Cents, 1908. London Mint. Edward VII. PCGS MS-61. From the Richard August Collection." This type was struck at London in 1903 and 1908 and at Heaton in 1904. This date is not rare. Newfoundland was admitted into the Dominion of Canada in 1949 and her separate coinage ceased. As a class, Newfoundland coinage is scarcer than equivalent Canadian coinage but collector demand for it is lower so it is often cheaper.
Recorded mintage: 400,000.
Specification: 1.17 g, 0.925 fine silver, 15.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.
