This specimen was lot 22408 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. Newfoundland. 5 Cents, 1876-H. Heaton Mint. Victoria. NGC VF-20. A SCARCE date (second rarest of the series) with even wear and light toning." This type was struck fairly steadily for Newfoundland 1865-96. It is a trifle heavier than the Canadian five cent piece of the period. This date was struck at Heaton and is very scarce. The key date is the 1873-H but this one is nearly as rare.
