In 1967, New Zealand abandoned the sterling coinage she had used since the days of Captain Cook and adopted the decimal dollar and cent. This fifty cent piece was struck 1967-85 at London, Canberra and Ottawa, New Zealand lacking her own mint. It was made in large quantities and was superseded by the Maklouf bust of the queen (KM 63, struck 1986-98).

Recorded mintage: 6,000,000 plus 25,000 proofs.

Specification: 13.61 g, copper-nickel, 31.75 mm diameter, designed by Arnold Machin and James Berry.
