New Zealand 1957 6 pence
This specimen was lot 23402 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "NEW ZEALAND. 6 Pence, 1957. PCGS MS-64 Gold Shield. No Strap variety. Rather RARE, this lightly toned Near Gem features soft, silky surfaces and radiating appeal. Along with only one other example, it stands as the finest graded in the PCGS census for the variety. From the Fenton Collection." The copper-nickel issues of Elizabeth II are divided into "no shoulder fold" (1953-55, shown here) and "with shoulder fold" (1956-65). In a few cases, "no shoulder fold" dies were used in error in 1956 and 1957, creating rarities; otherwise, most dates are common.
