Stack's Bowers 2014 ANA sale, lot 1316

This specimen was lot 1316 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "NEW ZEALAND. Florin, 1936. NGC MS-63. Scarce date. Light attractive toning." New Zealand did not receive her own coinage until 1933, British coins being used heretofore. Issue of pennies and half pennies did not begin until 1940. This is the key date of a type struck 1933-36.

Recorded mintage: 150,000 plus a few proofs.

Specification: 11.31 g, 0.500 fine silver, 28.58 mm diameter.
