New Zealand 1937 1/2 crown
This specimen was lot 23340 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "NEW ZEALAND. 1/2 Crown, 1937. PCGS MS-65 Gold Shield. An attractive Gem full of silky luster and light, golden peripheral toning, this immensely pleasing piece is the sole finest graded in the PCGS census. From the Fenton Collection." This half crown struck for George VI retained the arms reverse introduced with George V. This type was struck 1937-46 although none were made in 1938-40. In 1948, the obverse was revised from "GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR" to "KING GEORGE THE SIXTH." The denomination was terminated upon decimalization in 1965.
