New Zealand 1934 shilling

Goldberg sale 85, lot 4193

This specimen was lot 4193 in Goldberg sale 85 (Los Angeles, June 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "New Zealand. Shilling, 1934. George V. NGC graded MS-63." Coinage was first struck for New Zealand in 1933 and this type, struck 1933-35, quickly proved popular, being issued until the end of sterling coinage in 1965. The denomination was converted to copper-nickel in 1947. Most of the silver issues are expensive in high grade.

Recorded mintage: 3,400,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 5.65 g, 0.500 fine silver, 23.62 mm diameter.
