New Zealand 1934 florin
This specimen was lot 23329 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "NEW ZEALAND. Florin, 1934. PCGS MS-66 Gold Shield. A splendid and enticing Gem, this lustrous, original piece offers immense charm and beauty, and is tied with only one other example as the finest graded by PCGS. From the Fenton Collection." Coinage was first struck for New Zealand in 1933 and this type, struck 1933-36, quickly proved popular, being issued until the end of sterling coinage in 1965. The denomination was converted to copper-nickel in 1947. Most of the silver issues are expensive in high grade.
