This specimen was lot 3403 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $115. The catalog description[1] noted, "NEW ZEALAND: AE penny token, ND (1874), Kirkcaldie & Stains, Wellington, very light oxidation, VF-XF." This issue was accompanied by a half penny token (KM Tn36). The SCWC comments, "Because of a shortage of British money, New Zealand merchant tokens were issued beginning in 1857. There were some 147 varieties issued in 10 cities, although the majority were issued in Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington and Dunedin."
