This specimen was lot 24352 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $1,997.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "New Brunswick. Victoria 5 Cents 1862, MS62 PCGS. Extremely attractive, mottled toning with illuminating luster. Notably low mintage for this two-year issue makes this piece an elusive, conditional rarity." Prior to confederation with Canada in 1867, the province of New Brunswick issued half, one, five, ten and twenty cent pieces during 1861-64. The half cent, issued 1861 only, is the scarcest denomination.
Recorded mintage: 100,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 1.17 g, 0.925 fine silver, .035 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.
