New Brunswick 1862 20 cents
This specimen was lot 1733 in a Stack's Coin Galleries sale (New York, April 2010). The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. NEW BRUNSWICK. Victoria, 1837-1901. 20 Cents, 1862. Youthful head l. with braided hair. Rv. Large crown over value in heavy maple wreath. Two-year issue, peripheral toning follows the obverse rim. A provincial silver coin that is among the finest known. MS-64 (PCGS). From the Eliasberg Collection." Prior to confederation with Canada in 1867, the province of New Brunswick issued half, one, five, ten and twenty cent pieces during 1861-64. The half cent, issued 1861 only, is the scarcest denomination.
