Sincona sale 91, lot 3394

This specimen was lot 3394 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$264 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Neuenburg/Neuchâtel, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1805 und 1814-1840. Halbbatzen 1800, Neuchâtel. 1.79 g. Gekröntes, unten zugespitztes Wappen. Rv. Die Jahreszahl vor CUIQUE. Fast vorzüglich. (Switzerland, principality of Neuchâtel, Frederick William III, 1797-1805 and 1814-1840, half batzen of 1800, Neuchâtel mint. Obverse: crowned, pointed arms; reverse: date above "CUIQUE". About extremely fine.)"

This style of half batzen was struck 1799-1800 along with KM 57 (round arms). Unlike the other cantons, which were nominally republican, Neuchâtel was ruled by the kings of Prussia 1707-1805 and 1814-57.
