The first specimen was lot 72459 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. 1/10 Gulden, 1920. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. A boldly struck and lustrous little coin with cloudy russet toning." The second specimen was lot 72617 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[2] noted, "NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. Kingdom of the Netherlands. 1/10 Gulden, 1920. Utrecht Mint. Wilhelmina. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. Blast white and fully argent, this choice minor presents great eye appeal and dazzling beauty." This type was struck 1910-20, 1928-30. The Dutch hold on the East Indies in the early nineteenth century was weak and the British captured Batavia more than once during the Napoleonic Wars. Dutch control was restored at the Congress of Vienna. In the 1900's, the Dutch had conquered the profitable parts and the empire was steadily expanded to include all of what is now Indonesia by World War One. However, their establishment of schools for the natives led to the rise of an educated elite eager for independence.

Recorded mintage: 8,500,000.

Specification: 1.25 g, 0.720 fine silver, 15 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-311, Scholten 848.
