The coinage of Curaçao (pronounced "Curassow") extends only 1942-48. It was initiated after the occupation of the Netherlands by the Nazis in 1940. United States troops occupied the island to protect the vital oil refineries there, and the United States mint struck coins for circulation there, using Dutch homeland types. The coinage was merged with that of the Netherlands Antilles after World War Two. This one year type is the only 2½ gulden minted to this standard.
