Netherlands 1994 silver ducat
This specimen was lot 74235 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Groningen. Ducat, 1994. Beatrix. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. A limited mintage modern bullion type, this example yields near perfect surfaces and incredible eye appeal." The Netherlands was the last country to strike ducats on a regular basis. Gold ducats were struck 1972-78 and fairly steadily starting in 1985. Silver ducats, obsolete since the days of the Batavian Republic, were reintroduced in 1989 and struck intermittently for collectors since. Various designs honoring the various provinces are used, this one featuring Groningen.
