Netherlands 1993 silver ducat

from the Enschede Collection

The Netherlands was the last country to strike ducats on a regular basis. Gold ducats were struck 1972-78 and fairly steadily starting in 1985. Silver ducats, obsolete since the days of the Batavian Republic, were reintroduced in 1989 and struck intermittently for collectors since. Various designs honoring the various provinces are used, this one featuring Utrecht. It was also issued in 1989 and 1992.

Recorded mintage: 12,500 proofs.

Specification: 28.25 g, 0.873 fine silver, 40 mm diameter.
