Netherlands 1976 ducat
This specimen was lot 621 in Schulman auction 379 (Amsterdam, June 2024), where it sold for €210 (about US$270 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"KONINKRIJK DER NEDERLANDEN - JULIANA 1948-1980. Gouden dukaat. 1976 Staande ridder met zwaard en pijlbundel tussen jaartal. Kz. tekst in versierd vierkant. Mt. mercuriusstaf. TYPE I b (1972-1978). Mmt. haan., Gold. Prooflike/FDC. Sch. - (kingdom of the Netherlands, Juliana, 1948-80, gold ducat of 1976. Obverse: standing knight with sword and bundle of arrows divides the date; reverse: inscription on tablet. Privy marks: Mercury's staff and hen. Prooflike.)"
This type, a refreshed version of a type struck basically unchanged 1815-1937, is common tho the 1960 is slightly scarcer. Other dates include 1972-78. Ducats were produced for queen Beatrix but only as proofs.
Recorded mintage: 37,844 (about 32,000 were melted).
