Nassau-Weilburg 1809 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 3722 in Künker Auction 426 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €675 (about US$956 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NASSAU, HERZOGTUM Friedrich Wilhelm zu Weilburg, 1806-1816. 1/2 Konv.-Taler 1809, Stempel von Johann Lindenschmidt. Variante mit großem Kopfbild, ohne Signatur L. RR Sehr schön +. (duchy of Nassau, Frederick William of Weilburg, 1806-16, half convention thaler of 1809, variety with large bust and no initial. Very rare, very fine or better.)"
This one year type is rare. Confusingly, in the SCWC the image of this coin is swapped with an 1809 half thaler of Nassau-Usingen (KM 3), which was ruled by his cousin Frederick Augustus. Both died in 1816 and Frederick William's son William inherited both principalities.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: 14.03 g, 0.833 fine silver, 34 mm diameter, lettered edge, this specimen 14,03 g.
