Aureo y Calicó sale 422, lot 2804

This specimen was lot 2804 in Aureo y Calicó sale 422 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 65 € (about US$84 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1790. Fernando IV de Nápoles, infante de España. Nápoles. P/M-RC. 120 grana. Rayas en reverso. BC/BC+ [reverse scratched, fine or better]." The SCWC notes that 12 carlini = 6 tari = one piastra, where a piastra is roughly equal to a peso. Charles II, the last Hapsburg king of Spain, was also king of Naples and Sicily. After his death the area passed out of the hands of the Spanish crown, only to be reconquered by them in the 1730's. Ferdinand IV was the third son of Charles III, king of Spain 1759-88 and the younger brother of Charles IV. This type was struck 1786-94.
