Naples and Sicily 1788-P CCC 20 grana
This specimen was lot 2705 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$719 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY | Naples / Sicily, Ferdinando IV. 1. periodo, 1759-1799. 20 Grana 1788, Napoli. Rare, especially in this condition. Good extremely fine. Attractively toned. Slightly adjusted as usual." This type was struck 1788 and 1790 for Ferdinand IV, the third son of Charles III, king of Spain 1759-88 and the younger brother of Charles IV. One piastra was 120 grana, making this coin one-sixth of a piastra or two carlini.
