Steve Album Auction 55, lot 2558

This specimen was lot 2558 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $180. The catalog description[1] noted, "MYSORE: Tipu Sultan, 1782-1799, AR 1/4 paisa, Khaliqabad, AM1225, attractive example with full mint & date, PCGS graded VF35." The Indian state of Mysore, under her rulers Haider Ali (1761-82) and Tipu Sultan (1782-99), was a serious thorn in the side of the British Raj. The Mauludi Era (AM) was a calendar invented and used only by Tipu Sultan and it lapsed after his death in battle in 1799. This quarter paisa was struck AH 1200, AM 1215-1218 and 1225. Many mints issued these copper quarter paisa in dozens of styles.
