Mysore (1811-33) 20 cash KM-C177
This specimen was lot 75240 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Mysore. 20 Cash, ND (1811-33). Bangalore Mint. Krishna Raja Wodeyar III. PCGS AU-50." Krishnaraja Wadiyar III was maharaja of Mysore after Hyder Ali and Tipu Ali were overthrown by the British. He himself was set aside by the British in 1831, who ruled the kingdom directly until 1881, when the state was restored to his adopted son, Chamarajendra Wadiyar X. Various copper 2½, five, ten and twenty cash were struck at Nagar and Mysore in the 1830's and 1840's. The denomination on the reverse, "XX CΛSH", should read "XX CASH". Numerous varieties exist (KM C177a, C177b, C177c). Dates were added in 1833 and twenty cash were struck until 1843.
