This issue was minted in Lisbon in 1938 for the Portuguese colony of Mozambique. It was the second coin of its denomination. The coin is uncommon. The next ten escudos was struck in 1952-60 and is only 5 grams. The Portuguese withdrew from Mozambique in 1975, triggering a multifactional war that continued for decades.
