This issue was minted in Lisbon in 1936 for the Portuguese colony of Mozambique. It was the first coin of its denomination. The coin is uncommon. The next twenty centavos was struck in 1941. The Portuguese withdrew from Mozambique in 1975, triggering a multifactional war that continued for decades.
