Sincona sale 9, lot 3809
county of Montfort in 1810, on its absorption into Wurttemberg

This specimen was lot 3809 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 130 CHF (about US$164 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Montfort, Grafschaft Johann VIII. 1662-1686. 2/3 Taler 1675. Fast sehr schön. (County of Montfort, John VIII, 1662-86, two-thirds thaler of 1675. Choice very fine.)"

Montfort is an extremely obscure locality on the shore of Lake Constance in Wurttemberg. We have filed it under Austria as the counts sold out to the Austrian emperor in 1780. This type is a gulden, not a thaler, and so is excluded from our list of such. Three varieties exist for this rare issue.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 19,14 g.

Catalog reference: Dav-682. Ebner 99, KM 45.
