This specimen was lot 31404 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 'Przewalski Horses' Proof 750 Tugrik 1976 PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS. Fully appealing as a modern gold type, this sublime Conservation issue depicts the famed Przewalski Horses. As the grade indicates, impressive cameo contrast is observed between the frosted designs and the fully mirrored, jet-black fields, while careful handling has resulted in a Gem-level certified classification." Przewalski horses, the closest wild relative to the domestic horse, was native to Central Asia but had gone extinct in the wild. Several breeding pairs were reintroduced to Mongolia from captivity in the 1970's and today several hundred roam the Gobi.
