Stack's Bowers October 2020 Collectors Choice sale, lot 72412

This specimen was lot 72412 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "MONGOLIA. Mongo, AH 15 (1925). Leningrad Mint. PCGS AU-58 Gold Shield. A boldly struck Mongo with even brown patina throughout." This issue, the first for the independent country, was accompanied by two, five, ten, fifteen, twenty and fifty mongo and one tugrik. All match the contemporary Russian kopeks and rubles. The Communists ruled the nation with Russian support until they were overthrown in 1992. This series has become expensive since it was included in Chinese catalogs.
