This specimen was lot 2091 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 1,600 CHF (about US$1,981 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"MONACO Honoré II. 1604-1662. Ecu 1652. Sehr selten. Attraktive Tönung. Sehr schön. (principality of Monaco, Honoré II, 1604-62, écu of 1652, very rare, attractive toning, very fine.)"
The prince of Monaco issued an extensive series of coinage, from copper double tournois to one écu, mostly imitations of the neighboring French coinage. Today, it is all scarce to rare. This type is noted for 1652-53.
