Künker Auction 425, lot 1136

This specimen was lot 1136 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €22,000 (about US$31,152 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"EUROPÄISCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · MODENA Cesare d'Este, 1598-1628. Doppia 1608 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1606 geändert). CAESAR DVX MVT REG C · S · T · Brustbild r. mit umgelegtem Mantel//* OMNIA * - * VINCIT * Die Personifizierte Geduld steht v. v. mit verschränkten Armen. GOLD. Von größter Seltenheit. Winz. Schrötlingsfehler, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Sammlung Enrico Caruso, Auktion Canessa, 28. Juni 1923, Nr. 857; der Slg. Nobile Familia, Auktion Michele Baranowsky, Mailand 1931, Nr. 1797; der Slg. Conte Alessandro Magnaguti (6. Teil), Auktion Santamaria, Rom, 4. This type was struck 1605-09 and all dates are rare. The specification given below is that of a double ducat; we suspect this coin is a little lighter but the auctioneers did not report the weight. The SCWC lists this item using the Friedberg number.
