Milan 1676 doppia Fr-727
This specimen was lot 33261 in Heritage sale 3135 (Pittsburgh, September 2026), where it sold for $34,160. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italy: Milan. Charles II of Spain gold Doppia 1676 AU55 NGC, Milan mint. Featuring a lovely golden patina with light, yet evenly distributed wear throughout. Evidently struck with rusted dies, this sole-graded specimen nevertheless remains a scarce and highly desirable piece for the Milan specialist or those looking to build an elite cabinet of Italian gold." In 1676, Charles II was fifteen years old and all of Europe was waiting for his death, which would not occur for another 24 years. This is a rare one year type.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.59 g, gold, this specimen 6.61 g.
