Middlesex 1797 penny token D&H-7
This specimen was lot 20303 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Middlesex. Bronzed Copper British Commercial Penny Token, 1797. NGC PROOF-65 Brown. Plain Edge. Obverse: Laureate bust right, legend around; Reverse: Britannia seated left on cannon, date in exergue. This lovely and nicely preserved specimen offers much originality with smooth flashy surfaces and frosty devices; the sharp strike produced crisp details of the intricate features of the expressive portrait and fine details on the reverse leaving nothing to the imagination. This fully original looking and seldom encountered survivor is quite attractive with all of the bronzing still intact adding to its desirability and appeal sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters. Ex: Pittman Collection."
