This specimen was lot 75369 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $4,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Trade Tokens. Middlesex. Swainson's Copper 1/2 Penny Token, ND (ca. 1790s). PCGS MS-66 Brown. D&H-907. Obverse: Bust of Isaac Swainson left; Reverse: Draped woman dropping herbs into still. A VERY RARE token issue in general, but especially so in this stunning Gem state with glossy brown surfaces and exceedingly crisp devices. Astute collectors will take notice of this opportunity. From the Richard Margolis Collection." Isaac Swainson (1746-1812) was the inventor and marketer of a quack cure for venereal disease, "Velnos' Vegetable Syrup."
