This specimen was lot 3239 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Middelburg. Daalder Klippe of 32 Stuivers, 1572. PCGS EF-45 Secure Holder. Uniface. Bold stamps. Under the control of the Spanish the siege of Middelburg lasted between 1572-74 during the eighty-years war. With supplies running low the Spanish surrendered on February 18, 1574 after news reached the city that their reinforcements had been defeated at the battle of Scheldt January 29, 1574. The terms of the surrender allowed what remained of the Spanish garrison and the Clergy to flee the city without harm. Attractive slate gray toning." We note that 32 stuivers = 1-3/5 gulden. Regular issues included the Lion daalder (40 stuivers), the "prince" daalder (50 stuivers), the silver ducat (48 stuivers), the three gulden (57 stuivers) and the ducaton (silver rider or 60 stuivers).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Delm-165; VanGel-36a; Mailiet-pl.83#2.
