This specimen was lot 41219 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 500 Pesos, 1988-Mo. Mexico City Mint. NGC MS-65. Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the nationalization of the oil industry. The only example at this level, and exceeded by just one other in the NGC census, this VERY RARE celebratory issue presents great brilliance and radiance, along with a hint of frosting to the devices. Its counterpart, the 1000 Pesos denomination, recently realized a total of $5,280 in our February 2021 CCO auction (lot 74188)." The regular circulating 500 pesos (KM 529) featured martyred president Francisco Madero.
