This coin was minted in Mexico City as the final year of a type struck 1955-57. It superseded a similar coin that weighed 27.78 g (KM 467). The bust is of Miguel Hidalgo, martyr of the struggle for independence from Spain. A five pesos honoring the centennial of the Juarez constitution (KM 470) was also issued in 1957.
Recorded mintage: 3,464,000 plus 200,000 of the Juarez type.
Specification: 18.05 g, 0.720 fine silver, .417 troy oz ASW, 36 mm diameter, edge lettered COMERCIO - AGRICULTURA - INDUSTRIA.
