Mexico 1953 25 centavos rev DSLR.jpg

In 1946, the mint suspended the production of copper twenty centavos and in 1950 introduced this billon twenty-five centavos. It seems to have been an attempt to revive the balance scale quarter popular in the late nineteenth century but this base silver coin was a flop. Production terminated in 1953 and the twenty centavos resumed. All dates are readily available.

Recorded mintage: 38,144,000.

Specification: 3.33 g, 0.300 fine silver, 21.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM 443.
