Mexico 1953 (20 pesos)

from the Stack's Bowers 2017 NYINC sale, part of lot 7020

This specimen was part of lot 7020 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), which sold for $822.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Medallic 10 & 20 Pesos, 1953. NGC MS-66. 2 pieces in lot. Commemorates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Father Hidalgo." Altho struck to the standard of a gold twenty pesos of 1917-21, it bears no mark of value and is so classed as a medal. This and an accompanying medallic ten pesos were issued in conjunction with a circulating silver five pesos (KM 468).

Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.

Specification: 16.67 g, 0.900 fine gold, .479 troy oz AGW.
