Mexico 1950 peso

In 1949, the mint suspended the production of billon pesos (KM 456) and in 1950 introduced this debased silver peso of reduced weight. It was not a success and no more pesos were coined until 1957. The portrait is of José Maria Morelos, hero and martyr of the War of Independence.

Recorded mintage: 3,287,000.

Specification: 13.33 g, .300 fine silver, 32 mm diameter.
