The first specimen was lot 2428 in Goldberg sale 117 (Los Angeles, September 2020), where it sold for $102. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico. 2 Pesos, 1945. Brilliant Uncirculated." This type was struck at the Mexico City mint 1919-20, 1944-47 and restruck in 1945. The 1945 dos pesos, as the cheapest readily available gold coin, is the beloved raffle prize of coin clubs across the land. The last branch mints, Zacatecas and Culiacan, were closed in 1905 and all official Mexican coinage since has borne the Mexico City mintmark ("M" or "Mo").

Recorded mintage: 140,000 plus several million restrikes.

Specification: 1.67 g, 0.900 fine gold, 13 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: Fr-170, KM 461.
