This specimen was lot 30850 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $881.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Felipe V gold Escudo 1740/30 Mo-MF, XF45 NGC. Sharp rims and legends. Full strike. This is a scarce issue in superior condition." All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce. This type was struck 1732-47 with the bust of Philip V but despite the lengthy production, it is not common.
