This specimen was lot 491 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $540. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico City, Mexico, cob 8 reales, 1617F, rare. Completely visible date and mintmark, nearly full cross, but otherwise rather crude and with lightly corroded surfaces, toned Fine overall. Pedigreed to our Auction 21, with original lot-tag #404." The regular cobs were struck for Philip III 1607-21. Round "royals" are known from 1607-18 but all are rare, rarer than the equivalent Bolivian royals.
