Mexico (1536-42)-Mo G real
This specimen was lot 31265 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles & Johanna 'Early Series' Real ND (1536-42) G/oMo-oM/Po F15 NGC, Mexico City mint. A rare variety, seemingly struck using re-cut 'P' assayer dies, so that the initial to the right of the shield would appear more like an oMo mintmark instead of the previous assayer's initial. Moderate softening of the highpoints defines the grade, but the in-hand appearance remains quite pleasing. Only the second example that we're aware of, the other cited in The Coinage of the First Mint of the Americas at Mexico City as part of the Nesmith collection, which now resides in the ANS. Selections from the Isaac Rudman Numismatic Cabinet."
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.38 g, 0.931 fine silver, .100 troy oz ASW; this specimen 23 mm diameter, 3.2 g.
