This specimen was lot 76032 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $145. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Mewar. 1/4 Rupee, VS 1985 (1928). Fatteh Singh (under George V as Emperor). NGC MS-67. Tied for highest grade by NGC." Mewar (or Mewad) is a region in the south-central part of Rajasthan state of India. It includes the present-day districts of Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Udaipur, Pirawa Tehsil of Jhalawar District of Rajasthan, Neemuch and Mandsaur of Madhya Pradesh and some parts of Gujarat. Mewar State (also known as Udaipur State) was an independent state in northwestern India prior to the formation of the Indian Republic in 1949. This type was accompanied by a rupee, half rupee, eighth rupee (two annas) and sixteenth rupee (one anna). Numista states that altho these are dated VS1985 (1928), they were actually struck in 1932. A few are known struck in gold.
