Metz in 1648

This specimen was lot 759 in Aureo sale 261 (Barcelona, July 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"1639. Alemania. Metz. Enrique III. 1 taler. Bella. Rara y más así. EBC. (Germany, bishopric of Metz, Henry III, silver thaler of 1639. Handsome, rare in this quality, extremely fine.)"

The bishop and city of Metz both issued coins but the town was under French occupation from the mid-1500's, which occupation was formally recognized by the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648. This type is listed for 1638-45.
