Sincona sale 47, lot 1760
Metz in 1648

This specimen was lot 1760 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 150 CHF (about US$180 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Metz, Bistum, Teston 1599. Selten. Fast sehr schön. (bishopric of Metz, teston of 1599. Rare, About very fine.)"

This type is catalogued in the SCWC as a quarter thaler but the weight suggests a one-third thaler instead. Only the 1628 is shown therein but other dates obviously exist.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.

Specification: 9.14 g, silver, this specimen 9.22 g.

Catalog reference: Wendling II/F/l/3. Flon 742,5, KM-15.
