Sincona sale 18, lot 1452
Memmingen in 1786

This specimen was lot 1452 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 3,200 (about US$4,216 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Dukat 1730. 200-Jahrfeier der Augsburger Konfession. Stempel von Peter Paul Werner. Sehr selten. Fast vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Memmingen, ducat of 1730, on the bicentennial of the Augsburg Confession, dies by Peter Paul Werner. Very rare, choice extremely fine.)"

The imperial city of Memmingen issued this ducat on the bicentennial of the Augsburg Confession in 1730. All the coinage of this locale is rare, so we haven't bothered to set up a page for it. We have filed it under Bavaria, which annexed the town in 1802 and holds it today.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3,47 g.

Catalog reference: Nau 27. Slg. Whiting 406. Fr-1743, KM 25.
