G146-1385r.jpg
Memmingen in 1786

This specimen was lot 1385 in Goldberg Sale 146 (Los Angeles, July 2025), where it sold for $90. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Memmingen. Silver 1/2 Ducat, 1730. Commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Augsburg Confession. Coat of arms. Reverse: Legend in six lines. Nicely [t]oned on both sides. Pop 1; 1 in 66+. This coin shown in the PCGS pop report. PCGS graded AU-58. The Augustana Collection." This commemorative appears occasionally for sale, often described as a silver off-metal strike from half ducat dies. However, no gold half ducat appears in Friedberg or the SCWC and none appear in CoinArchives, so we don't think it exists.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: this specimen 19.5 mm diameter, 1.78 g.

Catalog reference: Whiting-408.
